The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has urged Nigerians residing in France to remain calm, maintain peace and respect the country’s laws amid concerns affecting their communities.
The commission’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made the appeal in a statement issued on October 29, 2026, by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols.
Dabiri-Erewa called on Nigerians in France to exercise restraint, uphold public order and conduct themselves responsibly. She warned against confrontations, violence and provocative actions that could heighten tensions.
She also encouraged Nigerians to cooperate with lawful instructions from French authorities and avoid spreading rumours or unverified information, particularly on social media.
According to the commission, Nigerians living abroad have a responsibility to represent their country positively while respecting the laws, institutions and communities of their host nations.
NiDCOM Advises Nigerians to Prioritise Safety.
The commission urged Nigerians in France to rely on verified safety guidance and exercise caution when responding to reports circulating online.
Dabiri-Erewa also advised anyone whose safety or rights might be at risk to seek appropriate legal assistance and contact relevant emergency or consular services when necessary.
The appeal comes as NiDCOM seeks to encourage peaceful conduct and responsible engagement among Nigerians living outside the country. The commission stressed the importance of avoiding actions or statements that could worsen tensions or create unnecessary misunderstandings between communities.
Nigerian community leaders, families, students, professionals and associations across France were also encouraged to share messages promoting peace, unity and mutual respect.
Commission Calls for Unity Among Nigerians Abroad.
NiDCOM reiterated that Nigerians in the diaspora can contribute to a positive image of the country by acting responsibly and maintaining peaceful relationships with people from different nationalities, religions and backgrounds.
The commission urged community leaders to work together to promote orderliness, caution and cooperation, particularly during periods of uncertainty.
Dabiri-Erewa’s message reinforces the commission’s broader responsibility to engage with Nigerians abroad and promote their welfare while encouraging them to observe the laws of their countries of residence.
NiDCOM called on Nigerians in France to remain vigilant, seek reliable information and avoid unnecessary confrontation as they continue their daily activities.
The commission’s central message was clear: Nigerians abroad should prioritise their safety, respect local laws and promote peaceful coexistence within their communities.
