The African Action Congress (AAC), whose presidential candidate for the 2027 general election is Omoyele Sowore, has asked President Bola Tinubu for permission to hold its Presidential Campaign Council inauguration at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
In a letter dated October 21, 2026, the party proposed November 11 for the event. It also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend from Nigeria and abroad.
The request came after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) inaugurated its own Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on October 14.
Why the AAC wants to use Aso Rock
The AAC said its request was based on multiparty democracy, political inclusion and equal treatment of political parties.
According to the party, approving the request would demonstrate that public institutions serve all Nigerians fairly, regardless of their political affiliations.
The party also asked the Presidency to provide information about the procedures and conditions that would apply if its request were approved.
The request therefore goes beyond securing a venue. The AAC is also asking the government to provide catering and other logistical support for the proposed gathering.
The APC comparison
In its letter, the AAC referred to the APC’s recent campaign council inauguration and said it wanted arrangements similar to those reportedly extended to the ruling party.
However, the available reporting does not establish that the APC received food, drinks or logistical support for 5,000 people. Premium Times also noted that the State House statement about the APC’s inauguration did not confirm that such support was provided.
The AAC’s comparison should therefore be understood as the opposition party’s stated basis for its request, rather than proof that both parties have received identical arrangements.
Presidency yet to respond publicly
As of the reports published on October 21, no public response from the Presidency had been reported. Premium Times noted that it was not immediately clear whether the Presidency had received or responded to the letter.
It remains unclear whether Tinubu will approve the proposed venue or whether the AAC will receive the requested logistical support.
The development comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, with questions of political fairness and the use of government facilities likely to attract further attention.
