Dangote Cement has reported a substantial profit of $714 million as Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, pushes ahead with plans for a potential $1 billion London listing, placing the Nigerian industrial giant in the spotlight amid renewed interest in African businesses seeking international investment.
The reported earnings underscore the importance of cement production to Dangote Cement’s business and its position in Africa’s construction and infrastructure markets. The company supplies cement to markets where demand is influenced by housing development, road construction, commercial projects and government infrastructure spending.
The proposed London listing could represent a significant step in Dangote’s broader ambition to strengthen the company’s access to global capital markets. A listing of that scale could attract international investors interested in gaining exposure to Africa’s industrial sector, although the final structure, timing and terms of the proposed transaction remain subject to confirmation.
London Listing Could Expand Access to Global Investors.
A potential $1 billion listing in London would place Dangote Cement before a wider pool of international investors and could increase the company’s visibility among institutional funds seeking opportunities in emerging markets.
For African businesses, international listings can offer access to deeper capital markets, broaden the shareholder base and potentially improve liquidity. However, the outcome depends on market conditions, investor appetite, regulatory requirements and the structure ultimately adopted.
Dangote Cement’s proposed move also comes against the backdrop of growing efforts by African companies to attract foreign investment while maintaining strong positions in their domestic markets.
For Dangote, whose business interests span cement, fertiliser, refining and other industrial activities, access to international capital could support longer-term expansion ambitions and reinforce the group's role in the continent's industrial development.
Revenue Growth and Debt Reduction Boost Performance.
According to the company’s unaudited financial results for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, Dangote Cement recorded profit after tax of ₦974.8 billion, equivalent to approximately $714 million. This represented a 31% increase from the ₦743.3 billion reported during the corresponding period in 2025.
Revenue rose by 19.6% to ₦3.77 trillion, while profit before tax increased by 41.5% to ₦1.47 trillion. Earnings per share also climbed to ₦58.37, reflecting improved profitability during the reporting period.
The company also strengthened its balance sheet by reducing borrowings from approximately ₦1.08 trillion at the end of December 2025 to ₦541.5 billion by September 2026. The reduction helped Dangote Cement move from a net debt position to net cash of ₦51.1 billion.
These results suggest that higher sales, stronger earnings and lower financing costs contributed to the company's improved financial position.
Nigeria Remains a Key Market.
Nigeria continues to play a central role in Dangote Cement’s operations, supported by demand for cement used in residential construction, commercial property development and infrastructure projects.
The company also operates across several other African countries, giving it exposure to construction markets beyond Nigeria. Its regional presence provides opportunities for growth, although performance varies by country depending on demand, operating costs, competition and economic conditions.
Dangote Cement has also outlined plans to increase its production capacity over the coming years, reflecting its ambition to strengthen its position in the African cement industry.
What the Proposed Listing Means for Dangote Cement.
The planned London listing is expected to provide international investors with another route to invest in the company. Reports have indicated that the transaction could involve the sale of approximately 10% of its shares, with a fundraising target of around $1 billion. The final terms and timing remain subject to market conditions and the completion of the necessary processes.
If completed, the listing could increase the company's international profile and broaden its investor base while retaining its existing presence on the Nigerian Exchange.
For Nigeria's capital market, the proposed transaction could also draw greater international attention to locally listed companies, particularly those with substantial operations across Africa.
Dangote Cement’s latest financial performance and planned London listing therefore represent two important developments for the company: stronger earnings in its core business and a potential expansion of its access to international capital markets.
